There is little more wonderful, scarier or more utterly exhausting than bringing a new life into this world. Every time I am able to be a part of this experience with a family I feel blessed.
My role as as newborn and post-natal support specialist is multifaceted, but I aim to calmly and gently help and guide parents through those first precious hours, days and weeks of their new baby’s life so that by the time I leave, parents are feeling confident, reassured and hopefully a little bit rested!
Traditionally the role was also know as a 'maternity nurse (non medical)and was to live in with the family for a period of time after the birth of their baby. This is usually for a certain number of days per week in the weeks that follow the birth. Personally, I try to tailor what I can offer to the needs of the family, making sure that I am taking into consideration the needs of all those concerned (including my own, as the last thing any family needs is an overstretched professional in their home!).
I took a break from in-house roles following the birth of my son 12 years ago, and now I will only consider shorter term roles. Please do get in touch to discuss your needs and even if I am unable to help personally, I may be able to recommend someone who can.
